Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody dismissed MP D.V. Chanaka’s claims about unsafe hydrated lime imports, calling them misleading.
Chanaka alleged that recent shipments contained excessive chromium levels.
Jayakody clarified that the consignment was tested at nine labs and was not used in water treatment.
He also noted that Sri Lanka raised its permissible chromium limit from 10 mg/kg to 12 mg/kg in 2024, aligning with international standards.
