The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) of the Parliament Chaired by Lasantha Alagiyawanna instructed the Department of Police to dispose of the expired tear gas existing in all Police stations across the country.
Senior Police officers had informed the COPA that the process of the disposal of expired tear gas has started and that they will never be used.
This was when the Police was summoned before the COPA on Tuesday (26) to examine the Auditor General's report and the performance for the 2019-2021 period.
Furthermore, Alagiyawanna, informed that a report should be prepared and submitted to the COPA on the measures taken in controlling public riots including with the use of tear gas, according to international conventions.
