Minister of Sports Roshan Ranasinghe emphasised the importance of school students engaging in sports activities.
He stated that a proposal has been submitted to the Minister of Education, Susil Premajayantha, to consider extending the school period from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The proposed extension aims to provide more time for students to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities.
Minister Ranasinghe said, by extending the school day, students would have the opportunity to balance their academic studies with physical activities, promoting a holistic approach to education and overall well-being.
The initiative aligns with the goal of encouraging a healthier and more active lifestyle among school students, recognising the numerous benefits that sports and physical activities can bring to their physical, mental, and social development.
