Sri Lanka’s tourism industry earned $1.12 billion in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 9.4% increase from the same period last year, according to Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) data.
March alone brought in $354 million, contributing to the rise in overall earnings.
Tourist arrivals surpassed 722,000 in Q1 2025, a 13.6% year-on-year increase.
The average income per tourist dropped from $1,613.59 in 2024 to $1,553.83 this year.
Accordingly, this suggests a growing tourist volume but lower individual spending.
