- No ‘significant’ change expected
A fuel price revision is expected to take place tomorrow (4) night, The Sunday Morning learns.
Although a price revision was expected at the end of February, it was slightly delayed and is due to happen tomorrow, a Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) official told The Sunday Morning.
It is further learnt that there will not be a “big change” in the fuel prices with the latest revision.
When contacted regarding the revision, CPC Chairman Saliya Wickramasuriya said: “We are not seeing any significant variations in our input numbers to the ministry, which will make the final decision.”
Fuel prices are currently revised on a monthly basis by following the fuel pricing formula. The last fuel price revision on 31 January saw CEYPETCO’s prices change as follows: octane 92 petrol increased by Rs. 5 per litre to Rs. 371, octane 95 petrol reduced by Rs. 8 to Rs. 456, auto diesel increased by Rs. 5 to Rs. 363, super diesel reduced by Rs. 7 to Rs. 468, and kerosene increased by Rs. 26 to Rs. 262.
The public has been grappling with high energy prices since the economic crash in 2022. Although Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera announced last year that Sri Lanka would be subjected to a daily automated price revising system from 2024, the changes are yet to be seen.
Wijesekera said at the time that CPC dealers had been briefed on the implementation of a daily automated price revising system from 2024 and were asked to automate all fuel dispensing and stock taking facilities with new equipment.
