The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has warned of slightly unhealthy air quality in 12 cities due to polluted winds from the north.
The public is advised to wear masks and seek medical help if experiencing breathing difficulties.
Affected cities include Kandy, Galle, Ratnapura, Embilipitiya, Puttalam, Badulla, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, and Anuradhapura.
Moderate air quality has been recorded in Kurunegala, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Mullaitivu, Batticaloa, Kalutara, and Moneragala.
The situation is expected to persist for several days.
