Inaugural session of 10th Parliament today

21 Nov 2024

The inaugural session of Sri Lanka’s 10th Parliament is set to take place today (21), with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presenting the Government’s Policy Statement.

The session begins at 10:00 a.m. with the election of the Speaker, followed by oaths taken by MPs, and the selection of the Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chairperson of Committees.

At 11:30 a.m., the President will deliver the policy statement from the Speaker’s Chair, outlining the Government’s future vision. The ceremonial event will forgo traditional military honours, gun salutes, and motorcades.

This address, once called the “Throne Speech,” serves to communicate the administration's policies to Parliament and the public.
