The Professionals’ Trade Unions’ Alliance (PTUA) hopes to take strict actions against the Government’s new tax policy and the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Speaking to The Daily Morning after a meeting held yesterday (10) in Colombo among the PTUA membership, the Spokesperson of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said that the PTUA has observed that the Government of President Ranil Wickremesinghe is not paying much attention to find solutions to the problems of the professionals.

“During today’s discussion, we discussed two main issues. Those two issues are the Government’s new tax policy and the proposed new Anti-Terrorism Act. However, we hope to reach an important decision in this regard after the New Year and to take strict actions against the Government policies that repress the citizens of this country,” he said.

Speaking further, he also said that the PTUA has decided to take all future actions in parallel to the decisions taken by the other collectives of trade unions. “The PTUA believe that all the trade unions should come together as a large movement to win what we want. Therefore, we decided to work together hereafter. We emphasised the importance of working independently without any political purpose. However, we hope to meet the President as soon as possible to ask him to take immediate actions to provide us with solutions for our demands,” he said.

The PTUA launched an Islandwide token strike on 15 March demanding solutions for the above-mentioned issues but they have not yet been given a proper solution by the Government.
