The Cabinet of Ministers has approved an amendment to the Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022, extending its enforcement date by six months to allow state entities more time for compliance.
Originally set for March 18, 2025, the new enforcement timeline aims to strengthen the law and ensure better integration of the proposed amendments.
This legislation, the first of its kind in South Asia, is designed to protect citizens' data rights while fostering growth in the digital economy.
The amendments, which address feedback from stakeholders, will be submitted to Parliament for approval soon.
