Commissioner General of Prisons Gamini Dissanayake announced that inmates will be allowed open visits from family members or guests during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Accordingly, open visits will be permitted on 13 and 14 April across all prisons in the country.

During these visits, each inmate is also allowed to receive one parcel containing food, sweets, or sanitary items, brought by their relatives.

All visitations will be conducted in line with health guidelines at every prison institution, he added.
