An incident where a senior official of the Government, currently serving at a key ministry in a post held by her during the previous Ranil Wickremesinghe Government as well, is working to ensure a good position for her daughter at an international forum has caught the attention of many members of the Government.

It is learnt that this senior Government official’s daughter is currently engaged in the field of nuclear and atomic studies, and is positioned at an international organisation overseas. The senior official had allegedly pushed for entering into an agreement with this international organisation during the former Wickremesinghe Government in order to ensure the position for her daughter.

However, now with a new Government assuming office, this official, it is learnt, is once again pushing President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s (AKD) Government also to focus and give priority to nuclear and atomic sciences. 

Several members of the AKD Government, who had looked into the reason for this official’s keen interest in nuclear and atomic sciences and the push for Sri Lanka to focus on it, had found the positioning of the official’s daughter and learnt that the mother was trying to ensure that the daughter receives the support required to retain her position in the relevant international organisation.
