The Director of the Planning Division at the National Institute of Education (NIE) and a school teacher have been remanded until 22 October following their arrest by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over a leak of the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination question paper.
The 58-year-old NIE Director and the 49-year-old teacher were presented in court after an investigation began on 20 September, prompted by allegations of a leaked question paper.
The Ministry of Education has temporarily suspended the paper marking process for the exam, which took place on 15 September, while the decision on a potential re-examination awaits the CID's findings.
Concerns grew when it was revealed that a model exam paper posted online allegedly contained three questions similar to those on the actual exam. Parents are calling for a re-examination, claiming eight questions were leaked.
The Police is asking for any evidence of additional leaks before the exam. This year's examination was conducted at 2,849 centers with 323,879 candidates.
