The office of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Janaka Rathnayaka has been taken over and sealed off by the police further to a tip-off received by the police department, The Daily Morning learns today (16).
Speaking to Police Spokesperson, SSP (Attorney at law) Nihal Thalduwa, it is learnt that the tip off was given to the police yesterday by a classified source and acting upon this, the police had requested for a court order for the PUCSL Chairman's office to be sealed.
"We received a tip off from a person I cannot disclose, of unlawful activities that is happening within the PUCSL Chairman's office. The allegations raised are of activities that is harmful to the current Government and which would be an attempt to cause a negative impact on the Government. Acting on this, the Colpetty police immediately requested for a court order for the office to be sealed. The order was given by the Fort Magistrate's court. We cannot reveal the source as it would compromise the person's safety," said Thalduwa.
Thalduwa further stated that Mr Rathnayaka's office will not be searched until he returns to the country.
Attempts made by The Daily Morning to contact Mr Rathnayaka proved futile as Mr Rathnayaka is currently overseas.
