Sineth Jayawardene from Royal College is set to lead the 15-member Sri Lanka U19 team in the upcoming men's U19 Asia Cup 2023.
Malsha Tharupathi has been named as the vice-captain. The team is facing the tournament with recent ODI series victories against West Indies U19 and Pakistan U19. Both series were highly competitive and their win against Pakistan U19 in Pakistan was a confidence boosting win. Their 2-1 series win against West Indies in September was followed by a 3-2 triumph over Pakistan in October.
The U19 Asia Cup, scheduled from 8 -17 December in the UAE. It is set to feature eight Asian teams. In Group A, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nepal will compete, while Sri Lanka, joined by Bangladesh, UAE, and Japan, will battle it out in Group B.
Sri Lanka’s U19 team will commence their campaign against Japan on 9 December in Dubai, followed by matches against UAE and Bangladesh on 11 and 13 December respectively.
