The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning, which is valid until 11.00 p.m. today (3).

Accordingly, thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, Northern and North-central provinces and in Galle, Matara, Monaragala and Matale districts.

There may be temporary localised strong winds during thunderstorms, it added, requesting the public take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity.
