Sumana Nellampitiya, Sri Lanka's first female television news anchor and a trailblazer in broadcasting, has passed away at 80. 

Born on 23 May, 1944, Nellampitiya began her career with the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) in 1967. S

She is remembered for her influential work in radio and television, including programs like "Pibidena Ga'yaka Parapura" and "Forens Vasana 7." 

Her contributions to promoting Sri Lankan culture internationally have left a lasting legacy.
