The National People’s Power (NPP) has announced the nominees for the 18 National List MP seats secured in the 2024 Parliamentary General Election. The nominated individuals represent various subjects such as higher education, engineering, social services, defence, and more.
The list includes Bimal Rathnayake, a Politburo Member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and NPP National Executive Committee member; Dr. Anura Karunathilake, a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics from the University of Kelaniya; and Prof. Upali Pannilage, former Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Ruhuna.
Others on the list include Eranga Udesh Weerarathna, an IT engineer and company CEO; Aruna Jayasekara, a retired Major General heading the NPP’s Retired Military Collective; and Dr. Harshana Sooriyapperuma, a company director. Adding to the list of nominees are Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, a naval assistant engineer; Punya Sri Kumara Jayakody, an engineer; and Ramalingam Chandrasekar, the former Deputy Chairperson of Committees of Parliament and Jaffna District Organiser for the NPP.
Further nominees include Dr. Najith Indika, former convener of the Inter-University Students Federation; Sugath Thilakaratne, an Olympian; and Lakmali Kanchana Hemachandra, a member of the NPP Lawyers’ Organisation’s Executive Committee. Additionally, Sunil Kumara Gamage, a chartered accountant and former Assistant General Manager of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, and Gamini Rathnayake, a former Parliamentarian, are among the appointees.
The list also includes Prof. Ruwan Chaminda Ranasinghe, Dean of the Management Faculty at Uva Wellassa University; Sugath Wasantha de Silva, a retired Social Services Officer; Abubakar Adambawa, NPP Parliamentary candidate from Digamadulla District; and Ranthnayake Hettige Upali Samarasinghe, Vanni District candidate.
