The Court of Appeal (CA) has scheduled a verdict announcement for next week (15) regarding whether an interim order should be issued to prevent the extension of detention orders imposed on the notorious underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka, known as “Harak Kata.”
This decision was made during a hearing of a writ application filed by "Harak Kata," who is currently detained in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The hearing was presided over by the Appellate Court judge bench, consisting of Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and Chamath Morais.
Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, representing the Attorney General (AG), raised preliminary objections related to the petition. He noted that "Harak Kata" faces at least 23 cases in various courts, including charges of murder, attempted murder, and drug trafficking.
The Deputy Solicitor General argued that the petitioner had not disclosed these details in his petition, indicating a lack of transparency.
Considering all the presented facts, the judge bench announced that the verdict on the petition would be delivered on Friday, 15 September.
