The Supreme Court (SC) issued an interim injunction halting the implementation of a Gazette notification that increased the annual fee for liquor licenses to Rs. 20 million.
This decision was made by a three-judge bench while granting leave to proceed with a fundamental rights (FR) petition filed by the Sri Lanka Liquor Licensees’ Association.
According to the petition, the fee hike violated their fundamental rights and it sought a reversion to the 2017 fee structure.
