The Thai Pongal festival, also known as the "Harvest Festival," is a revered occasion for Tamil and Hindu communities worldwide.

Observed on the first day of the Tamil month "Thai," this celebration expresses gratitude to the Sun, Earth, rain, and cattle for their contributions to a prosperous harvest.

It also marks the Sun's northward journey, "Uttarayana," symbolizing renewal, harmony, and coexistence.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his Thai Pongal message, highlighted the festival's alignment with Sri Lanka’s transformative "Clean Sri Lanka" initiative, emphasising the importance of humanity’s bond with nature and sustainable development.

He called for collective efforts to build an environmentally conscious and culturally enriched society, fostering lasting peace, unity, and resilience.

As the nation embarks on a new year, Thai Pongal serves as a source of hope and inspiration, urging everyone to embrace the values of harmony and shared purpose.

The President extended heartfelt wishes to all Sri Lankans and Hindu devotees worldwide, expressing hope for a joyous and prosperous Thai Pongal filled with gratitude, abundance, and optimism for a brighter future.
