Thurstan third time lucky against Peter’s
In the U19 Division 1 Tier B Inter-Schools Limited Overs Tournament 2023/24, Thurstan College, Colombo secured a spot in the final after defeating St. Peter’s College, Colombo by 11 runs in the semi final at Army Camp Grounds, Panagoda yesterday.
After winning two consecutive finals in Tier B against Thurstan College, defending Champions fell short in the semis. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Thurstan faced an early setback with quick wickets. However, Thanuja Rajapaksha and Shanikya Deshapriya consolidated for them with the bat.
Peterite premier spinner Shennon Rodrigo brought his team back with a hatrick and bundled out Thurstan College for 148.
The run chase from the Peterites suffered the same fate as they struggled to build any fruitful partnerships. It was only Rodrigo, who showed some grit scoring 40, but Thurstan’s Thanuga Palihawadana and Sethru Fernando’s three wickets meant Thurstan sealed their spot in the finals against Lumbini.
