State Minister Sanath Nishantha was attacked by a group of people in Marawila, Puttalam.
The incident took place after the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in an accident near the Modarawella Church.
A businessman, reportedly enraged by the damages to his vehicle has attacked the minister and his vehicle with an iron rod.
The Minister's bodyguards safely evacuated him in a backup vehicle.
The extent of any injuries sustained by the Minister is unknown at this time.
