The results of the 2023 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination were released yesterday (29) morning.
According to the Department of Examinations, Hiruni Malsha Kumaratunga from Sangamitta Girls' College, Galle, has achieved the all island first place. The second position has been jointly secured by Wimansa Jayanadi Ratnaweera from Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala, and Kulani Methsara from Musaeus College, Colombo 7.
Additionally, Seshani Jayawardene from Visaka Vidyalaya, Colombo 4, Methuki Chamodi Perera from Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, and Naduni Pamuditha Ranawaka from Sangamitta Girls' College, Galle, have each obtained fourth place.
In a statement to the media, Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara highlighted that nine out of the top ten positions were filled by female candidates, with only one boy making it into the top ten.
This year, a total of 452,979 applicants sat for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination. Of these, 387,648 were school candidates, while 65,331 were private candidates. The examinations were conducted across 3,527 centres nationwide from May 6 to 15.
