The New Democratic Front (NDF) has revealed in an official statement that President Ranil Wickremesinghe was informed about the party’s decision to nominate Ravi Karunanayake as a National List MP.
In a letter issued by NDF Secretary General Shymila Perera, the party outlined the background to Karunanayake’s nomination, addressing growing criticism over the move.
The letter states that the decision to nominate Karunanayake was made unanimously by the NDF’s Executive Committee on 17 November and adhered strictly to the terms of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with coalition partners.
According to the statement, the NDF secured two National List MP positions following the 2024 parliamentary elections, as part of an agreement within a coalition of political parties, including the Podujana Eksath Nidahas Peramuna (Trophy Symbol) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the People’s Alliance (Chair Symbol).
