Health officials have called on parents to be extra cautious with children during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season due to a rise in accidents.
Dr. Deepal Perera of Lady Ridgeway Hospital said many children are hospitalized each year due to firecracker injuries and road accidents, often linked to drunk-driving.
He also warned of increased cases of diarrhea, urging parents to monitor their children’s food intake.
With ongoing hot weather, he advised ensuring children stay hydrated and bathe regularly to avoid skin issues.
