Courtyard by Marriott Colombo

  • A base for the Colombo traveller

With the hustle, bustle, and heat of Colombo growing ever more stifling, an oasis within the city is becoming more and more important. A new city oasis opened its doors last week and The Sunday Morning Brunch was invited to take a look.

The vibe

Courtyard by Marriott Colombo is one of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 brands and is the first Courtyard to open in Sri Lanka. Located adjacent to Colombo City Centre (on top of the mall), Courtyard by Marriott Colombo is an interesting addition to Colombo’s crop of city hotels.

With its entrance located on Muttiah Road, guests walk into a mini lobby on the ground floor before taking an elevator up to the main lobby which is on the ninth floor of the Colombo City Centre complex, with guest rooms spanning from the 10th to the 17th floors of the complex.

While designed to evoke a sense of cosiness, the lobby is still commanding and leads straight to a roof terrace and pool as well as the in-house gym and one of its core restaurants – Beira Kitchen. The Courtyard by Marriott Colombo is set to offer a sophisticated yet comfortable environment for guests.

“I am delighted to welcome guests to an international hotel experience in Sri Lanka with the opening of the Courtyard by Marriott Colombo,” Courtyard by Marriott Colombo General Manager Elton Hurtis said. “Sri Lanka has plenty to offer, from golden sandy beaches and exotic wildlife to UNESCO world heritage sites and rich biodiversity. We offer a prime location for business or leisure travel – or a blend of both – and look forward to providing excellent comfort, functionality, and guest services to both national and international travellers.”

Hurtis, who has been part of the Marriott family for over 20 years, six of which have been spent nurturing Marriott hotels in Sri Lanka, also shared that the Courtyard by Marriott Colombo was the first of many new hotels Marriott hoped to open in Sri Lanka by 2026.

The amenities

he hotel offers 164 thoughtfully designed rooms with functional work areas and high-speed internet access, empowering visitors to stay both connected and productive while on the road. Guests can stay in comfortable suites ideal for extended stays or family travel.

The hotel features three distinct dining venues including Beira Kitchen, an all-day dining restaurant offering local delicacies and international cuisines. At Tito’s Café, guests can start their day with freshly baked bread, coffee, or tea and The Lounge provides a relaxing atmosphere with light beverages and assorted bites.

The Courtyard by Marriott Colombo is equipped with state-of-the-art banqueting facilities for hosting events and gatherings of varied sizes. Its smart indoor meeting spaces are spread over an area of 14,500 sq. ft. and are suited to accommodate both large and intimate gatherings.

Recreational facilities at the hotel include a well-equipped 24-hour fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool.

An offering for business and leisure alike

The Courtyard by Marriott Colombo is primarily designed for the business traveller. Its guestrooms, while compact, provide an elevated experience to relax and recharge, complete with plush bedding and flexible workspaces.

This doesn’t mean the Courtyard is not well suited to leisure. Its welcoming pool, inventive restaurants, and central location make it the perfect spot to set up base while exploring Colombo in all its cosmopolitan glory.
