FFSL Executive Council in trouble

FFSL Executive Council in trouble

02 Mar 2023 | By Chathura Ranasinghe

It is reported that four members of the Executive Council of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) have resigned from their posts.

Accordingly, FFSL Secretary Indika Thenuwara submitted his resignation letter to the federation’s President J. Sri Ranga, while FFSL Vice Presidents C. Deepika Kumari and Saman Nagahawatta, as well as FFSL Treasurer T. Sudhakar, have also subsequently turned in their letters of resignation.

Due to the resignation of a majority of the Executive Council that was elected on 14 January, the current elected body is reportedly under threat as the quorum has fallen, rendering it impossible to carry out the responsibilities of the FFSL. Although the Executive Council of the Football Federation is required to have 11 members, only 8 were elected to office on 14 January. A minimum of six executive members are required to maintain the quorum, and due to the resignation of four members, there are now only four members left. Even at present, despite possessing a proper action plan, the new administration of the Football Federation is unable to implement it.

The FFSL was banned by the International Football Federation (FIFA) on 21 January 2023, citing third-party involvement among several other factors.
