The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) has revealed that improper registration of motorcycles and fraudulent vehicle registrations have cost the Government billions.
Key findings include:
Rs. 78.15 million lost due to uncollected fees on 296 motorcycles.
3,088 motorcycles registered without Cabinet approval or legal documentation.
Rs. 1.2 billion lost from fraudulent use of engine and chassis numbers.
Rs. 122 million lost due to misuse of diplomatic registration numbers.
COPA criticised the lack of disciplinary action and called for immediate investigations, monthly progress reviews, and legal action against those responsible.
