The Committee of Inquiry investigating Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandhu Tennakoon over alleged abuse of power has requested the Acting IGP to nominate a police team to assist its investigation.

This request was made during the committee's second meeting held in Parliament today (25).

The Attorney General (AG) has appointed Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris (PC) and Deputy Solicitor General Rajitha Perera to support the committee's work.

Preliminary discussions were held on future proceedings and stakeholder involvement.

The committee will reconvene on 28 April to decide the next steps in the inquiry.
