The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal to import up to 30,000 metric tonnes of raw, non-iodised salt to address a potential shortage in the domestic market due to adverse weather conditions.
Accordingly, the salt will be imported by the Sri Lanka State Commerce (Miscellaneous) Corporation Limited and supplied to the market by local salt manufacturers.
The importation is expected to be completed by 31 January 2025.
