- Spl. edu/health visa category mooted for SAARC
The National Election Commission (EC) stated that it is ready to prepare the necessary mechanism and system to provide for overseas Lankans to vote, per the new recommendation given by the Legislature. The EC also pointed out that a method of registering to vote via online registration technology has been prepared.
The EC informed thus when the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee on International Relations met in the Parliament on Tuesday (8) under the chairmanship of Namal Rajapaksa.
The Committee also took into discussion the need to prepare a special visa category for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries including India, Bangladesh and the Maldives. Rajapaksa emphasised that it is important to prepare a special visa category for SAARC countries in the fields of education and health. As a result, he said that the Committee would propose to prepare a system of granting visas for these countries in a considerate manner.
