- Cash reward for vital info providers
Police is seeking public assistance to arrest a female suspect wanted in connection with aiding and abetting in the Wednesday (19) murder of organised crime suspect Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne alias ‘Ganemulla Sanjeewa’ inside the Number Five Magistrate's Court in Aluthkade.
She is the one who has brought the revolver used in the shooting to the Courts Complex and handed it over to the suspected assassin, the latter who has since been arrested.
Her details are as follows: Name – Pinpura Dewage Ishara Sewuwandi, age – 25 years, national identity number – 995892480v, and address – 243/1, Negombo Road, Jaya Mawatha, Katuwallegama. The public has been requested to provide any information regarding her to the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) via 0718591727 and the Officer-In-Charge of the CCD on 0718591735. It is also informed that the Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has decided to give a cash reward from the Police reward fund to any person who provides information such as her whereabouts that would prove instrumental in her arrest. Further, the Police claimed that they would protect the confidentiality of informants who provided vital information leading to her arrest.
The Police on Wednesday had identified the female suspect. Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manathunga said that the suspect woman, who was also disguised as a lawyer and had entered the Courts Complex, had brought the gun which was used in the assassination. He confirmed that the revolver was smuggled into the Courts Complex premises by the suspect woman by concealing it inside a hollowed-out book (Code of Criminal Procedure).
