Sri Lanka reiterated its unwavering support for the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) at the 29th session of the Conference of State Parties (CSP-29) in The Hague, Netherlands.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Netherlands, Rekha Gunasekera, Permanent Representative to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), delivered Sri Lanka’s National Statement.
She emphasised Sri Lanka’s firm opposition to the use or threat of chemical weapons and highlighted national efforts to uphold CWC obligations.
The Ambassador stressed the need for international cooperation in leveraging technology for peaceful purposes and preventing misuse in the chemical industry.
Sri Lanka, a signatory since 1993, established a National Authority under the Ministry of Defence to implement CWC provisions. The CSP-29 session, organized by the OPCW, concludes on 29 November 2024.
