The Election Commission (EC) has announced the appointment of Samantha Ranasinghe from the National People’s Power (NPP) as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kegalle District.

Ranasinghe fills the vacancy created by the passing of NPP MP Kosala Nuwan Jayaweera.

He was elected under Section 62 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, following the death of Jayaweera. The appointment was made in accordance with Section 99(13)(b) of the Constitution and Section 64(2) of the same Act.

The announcement was made by Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Ratnayake.
