The oarswomen of Ladies’ College and Musaeus College will take to the waters at the Beira on Saturday (5) 1 p.m. onwards with the Colombo Rowing Club being the epicentre of action as the great rivalry in the only girls’ regatta in the island nation will see its 19th edition unfold.
Last year Ladies' College clinched the Marie Musaeus Higgins Trophy defeating Musaeus College at the 18th LC-MC Regatta. LC accumulated a record 39 points to 13 against Musaeus.
This year's chief guest will be former Ladies' College Rowing Captain Ishara Abbey.
The regatta will host many boat classes ranging from single sculls, double sculls, coxless pairs and coxed fours. Races will be based on points, with the overall tally adding up to a total of 52. There will be two races per boat class (‘A’ and ‘B’ crews) and will also feature an exhibition of ‘under-16 four’, ‘C four’, and an old girl’s race.

The event traditionally held at the Colombo Rowing Club, attracts scores of students, parents, and alumni from both schools, and the inclusion of old girls’ races recently has added much more glamour to the event.
After their win in 2023, LC’ites retained the Marie Musaeus Higgins Trophy at Flower Road for yet another year with their 12th win in the series. Musaeus is yet to win since their last triumph in 2018. This is the only rowing regatta rivalry between two girls’ schools in Sri Lanka.
