The ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), which launched its Local

Government (LG) Poll campaign yesterday (5) by making its first bail deposit for

nominations at the Kalutara District Secretariat, claimed that it is ready to take on

any electoral challenge and that it will achieve a result that the party can rejoice

in.

SLPP MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena said that the “SLPP is ready to handle any

challenge”, with SLPP MP Johnston Fernando adding that the party is “ever ready

to compete in any election” and that it “will be able to achieve a result to rejoice

The duo stated this while addressing the media in Kalutara after they, along with

SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa and SLPP General Secretary and MP Attorney Sagara

Kariyawasam, deposited the bail money payment for the application for the LG

Election nominations.

“We will make our fullest effort to emerge successful at the upcoming election,

under the guidance of our Leader and MP Mahinda Rajapaksa and with the

support of the people. We cannot do anything about the disorder in the other

parties. They seem wholly unprepared, even after parading for the election to be

held. However, the SLPP is ready to handle any challenge,” he said.

Kariyawasam revealed that the SLPP has made an open invitation to all parties to

join an alliance to enter the election by working unitedly for the betterment of the

country at this moment of dire need.

“We will enter the election as an alliance under the SLPP name with the

‘pohottuwa’ (lotus bud) symbol. We have made an open invitation to all to join
