The ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), which launched its Local
Government (LG) Poll campaign yesterday (5) by making its first bail deposit for
nominations at the Kalutara District Secretariat, claimed that it is ready to take on
any electoral challenge and that it will achieve a result that the party can rejoice
in.
SLPP MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena said that the “SLPP is ready to handle any
challenge”, with SLPP MP Johnston Fernando adding that the party is “ever ready
to compete in any election” and that it “will be able to achieve a result to rejoice
over”.
The duo stated this while addressing the media in Kalutara after they, along with
SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa and SLPP General Secretary and MP Attorney Sagara
Kariyawasam, deposited the bail money payment for the application for the LG
Election nominations.
“We will make our fullest effort to emerge successful at the upcoming election,
under the guidance of our Leader and MP Mahinda Rajapaksa and with the
support of the people. We cannot do anything about the disorder in the other
parties. They seem wholly unprepared, even after parading for the election to be
held. However, the SLPP is ready to handle any challenge,” he said.
Kariyawasam revealed that the SLPP has made an open invitation to all parties to
join an alliance to enter the election by working unitedly for the betterment of the
country at this moment of dire need.
