Police officers have opened fire while attempting to apprehend a suspect in relation to several crimes after he had grappled with policemen who were attempting to arrest him in the Alwai area of Point Pedro, Jaffna, on Monday (9) afternoon.
The 27-year-old suspect, who was injured in the shooting, has then been arrested by police officers and subsequently admitted to the Point Pedro Base Hospital for treatment, the Police said.
However, the arrested suspect was later transferred to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
He is reportedly suspected to have been involved in several crimes in the Jaffna area including sword attacks and thefts.
