The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced that all schools across Sri Lanka will be closed on 5 and 6 May due to the 2025 Local Government (LG) Elections.

Accordingly, schools will reopen for students on 7 May.

Those being used as polling stations must be handed over to the respective Grama Niladharis by 4 May.

Zonal Education Directors and school principals have been instructed to ensure the provision of necessary furniture and hall space for election activities.

Certain schools designated as counting centres will remain closed for additional days.
