Former Minister Harin Fernando will be contesting with the New Democratic Front (NDF) alliance under the gas cylinder symbol despite claims that he will not be contesting in the 2024 General/Parliamentary Election.
“I have signed my nomination papers for the Parliamentary Election and I will be contesting under the gas cylinder symbol,” Fernando told The Daily Morning yesterday (10). “My aim is to make the people realise the mistake that they have made and to work for the country.”
Fernando along with former Minister Manusha Nannayakkara lost their Parliamentary seats after a Supreme Court decision upheld the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s decision to expel the duo from the Party. After this decision, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Fernando as an advisor. Fernando supported Wickremesinghe in his bid for re-election but told the media that he would be taking a break from politics after the election of current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Nannayakkara will also contest under the gas cylinder along with former Minister Kanchana Wijesekera.
