The Navy intercepted a fishing trawler 120 nautical miles off Colombo, seizing over 191kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine yesterday (26).
The operation, led by SLNS Nandimithra, apprehended six suspects aged 25 to 68 from the Chilaw, Iranawila, and Thoduwawa areas. The seized narcotics have a street value exceeding Rs. 2572 million.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, inspected the consignment at Dikovita Fisheries Harbour.
The suspects and narcotics were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for further action.
The Navy urges public cooperation in combating drug smuggling.
