The U.S. Embassy, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Central Cultural Fund, has launched a Rs. 32 million conservation project to preserve the 12th-century Thuparama Image House in Polonnaruwa, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage site.

Funded by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), the initiative aims to prevent further damage to the historic site, known for its vaulted brick roof and intricate stucco designs.

The launch event featured U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung and Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, underscoring the importance of protecting Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage for future generations.
