The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), which is awaiting special approval from the Treasury to provide its employees with their bonuses for last year (2022), expressed that it is highly likely that such approval would be granted, as the bureau has made an approximate income of Rs. 5 billion during the course of last year, SLBFE General Manager D.D.P. Senanayake said.
“We are awaiting Treasury approval to provide our employees with their due bonus for last year. We needed to attain special approval from the Treasury due to the strained economic conditions in the country. This bonus is usually paid to SLBFE employees at the end of December, and this would consist of a sum of two months of their gross salary, as we are a profit-making institution,” said Senanayake while speaking to The Morning.
Senanayake was contacted after it was revealed that hundreds of SLBFE employees surrounded his office, demanding their bonuses, last afternoon (12). However, he emphasised that it was more of an inquiry by the employees of the State-owned institution rather than a demand.
