Restraining order on SLADA extended

25 Dec 2024

The Court of Appeal extended the restraining order preventing Sri Lanka Autosports Drivers’ Association (SLADA), from holding its election until 22 January 2025 when the case was taken before Judges Bandula Karunaratne and Sashi Mahendran recently.

The Bench instructed the petitioners to submit their written submissions, after Attorney at-Law Akheel Deen, who appeared on behalf of the petitioners, pointed out that the Election Committee appointed by the Director General (DG) of Sports Shemal Fernando, had caused injustice to affiliations of SLADA, by preventing them from exercising their voting rights.

He further stressed that such affiliated clubs of SLADA, should be guaranteed their rights to submit nominations and cast votes, and until that is assured, the election or the Annual General Meeting (AGM), should be withheld from proceeding.

Senior Solicitor General Manohara Jayasinghe appeared on behalf of the plaintiff, the Director General of Sports Shemal Fernando.
