The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) faction led by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and the ‘New Alliance’ launched a new alliance yesterday (14) under the name ‘Podujana Eksath Peramuna (People’s Alliance).’ 

Opposition Parliamentarian Anura Priyadarshana Yapa has been named as the Leader of the new alliance. 

State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna has been appointed as the General Secretary, while State Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayake has been appointed as the Treasurer.

This new alliance, which includes the SLFP faction led by de Silva, was officially formed in Colombo and the ‘New Alliance’ is comprised of MPs including Nimal Lanza and several other parties and groups. 

During the event, Alagiyawanna announced the positions within the alliance, which also includes a leadership council of 21 members including the Chairperson of the SLFP, de Silva.

The newly formed alliance plans to contest the upcoming Election under the symbol of the chair.
