- Silverwood quits
- Kandamby likely to be next Head Coach
- ‘Dasher’ to take control of international cricket?
One debacle after the other, the meeting of the Cricket Committee of the controlling body of the game was in a turbulent mood on Monday (24) as one of the Vice Presidents, who currently holds responsibility of the international scene, had tried to put the blame of the World Cup disaster on ‘the legendary dasher’ who was amongst the touring side holding major responsibility.
The board should also take half of the responsibility, ‘the dasher’ had argued, while the leading businessman cum administrator had countered his argument putting the blame entirely on the disciplinary breach of the team, and the mishandling of the situation by ‘the dasher’ himself.
This is nothing but repeat of the history – Muttiah Muralitharan too had to cross swords with the same administrator when the former was part of the Cricket Committee then.
Mahela Jayawardene this week quit his advisory position of the Sri Lanka national cricket team.
Following that, Head Coach Chris Silverwood also has refused an extension of his contract for another term.
In Silverwood's place, ‘the dasher’ promotes Thilina Kandamby, present Assi. Coach, it's alleged.
The board tries to wash its hands off from the disastrous outcome, the Captain brings up various other reasons for the disaster, now Mahela quits his position and Silverwood too is out, the blame game is likely to culminate with ‘the dasher’ taking total control of the team and the overall international cricket side of the board.
As part of the board is to go for a foreign Head Coach in place of Silverwood, ‘the dasher's promotion of a local candidate looks to be gaining as the wiser, timely and more sensible move taking the present context into consideration.
