Former North Central Province Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith and his Private Secretary, Shanthi Chandrasena, have filed an appeal against their 16-year rigorous imprisonment sentence on corruption charges.

The appeal was submitted to the Colombo High Court (HC) for consideration by the Court of Appeal.

They argue that the High Court judge failed to consider key facts during the trial and have requested to be acquitted of the charges.
