A future Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Government would take a firm stance against religious extremism, asserted the SJB and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Addressing a public meeting held in Kuliyapitiya yesterday (17), Premadasa emphasised that no religious group would be permitted to promote extremist ideologies under his leadership. Premadasa also outlined the SJB's vision for a unified Sri Lanka, where all religions and ethnicities are treated with equal respect and dignity. He stressed that the country’s progress is hindered by divisions based on religious and ethnic lines, stating that achieving national development goals requires a united effort.
"The SJB is committed to building a nation where every religion and ethnicity is treated equally. We cannot achieve our development goals if we remain segregated by religion and ethnicity. Unity and equality are essential for our country to move forward," he added.
He also underscored the importance of promoting diversity and ensuring that all communities feel valued and protected. "Our goal is to create an environment where every citizen, regardless of their religious or ethnic background, can thrive and contribute to the nation's development. Religious extremism has no place in our vision for Sri Lanka," he stated.
Premadasa called on all citizens to support these efforts, highlighting that collaboration and mutual respect are crucial for a prosperous future.
