Parliament has unanimously passed a resolution to appoint a committee of inquiry for the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon over alleged misconduct and abuse of power.
The motion, presented by National People’s Power (NPP) MP Lakmali Hemachandra, received 151 votes in favour, with none against.
The resolution was passed under the Removal of Officers (Procedure) Act, citing Sections 3(d), 3(e), and 5.
No debate was held prior to the approval of the motion.
