SLC Selection Committee allegedly rejected by National Selection Committee

25 Jan 2023 | By Ranjika Perera

Reports emerged in the media recently stating that the National Sports Selection Committee (NSSC) has written to the Ministry of Sports, informing of their rejection of the nominees sent by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for National Cricket Selectors.

The reports say that the NSSC, in a letter, has pointed out the availability of more suitable candidates for the SLC Selection Committee.

The Daily Morning Sports sources learnt that the current selection committee, headed by Pramodya Wickramasinghe, has been nominated once again.

The Daily Morning Sports contacted SLC Secretary Mohan De Silva regarding the matter. De Silva said that they have not been notified about a rejection as of yesterday (24).

Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe and National Sports Council Chairman Arjuna Ranatunga are currently both out of the country.

Several months ago, Ranatunga, speaking at a press conference, said that the Wickramasinghe-led SLC Selection Committee was never approved by the National Sports Council.

The rift between the Ministry, NSC, and SLC continues at a time when the Sri Lankan cricket team is facing a turbulent time in the 50-over format.

The Lions will be travelling to New Zealand for a decisive series which would determine their place in the upcoming 50-over World Cup in India.

Sources connected to The Daily Morning Sports revealed that the NSSC had requested the Ministry to ask the SLC to send in more nominations.
