Police stated that legal action has been taken against 4,048 motorists caught violating traffic laws via CCTV footage in Colombo since 1 February 2024.

Notices have been sent to drivers' homes, and action was also taken against 241 vehicle owners who failed to transfer ownership.

So far in 2025, 724 fatal road accidents have been reported, resulting in 764 deaths.
